Wine of the week

Allee Bleue L'Amour Toujours 2007

This opulent red blend is drinking beautifully now, but will still develop for 3-5 years in the bottle. Rich and complex, this wine is smooth enough to drink on it's own, but will shine with food as well. The combination of Bordeaux and Rhone varieties creates an interesting counterpoint between lush plums and cherries, sweet spices and delicate cedar. Blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot and Grenache Noir.

D'Aria Blush 2009

This delightful pinkie is a perfect poolside, lunchtime, anytime wine. The lush berries from the Merlot and the fresh, tropical, Sauvignon Blanc characteristics meld beautifully into a lovely accompaniment for cheese platters and salads, or simply to enjoy on its own.

De Krans Pink Port

Served in a martini glass on crushed ice as a welcome drink at a garden party, this new release was a lovely, fresh summer drink, with heaps of strawberries on both the nose and the palate. The attractive frosted bottle also makes a pretty (and affordable!) gift.

Sumaridge Pinot Noir 2008

This 4-star Platter wine is one of the most accessible examples of the variety I have tasted in a long time. Excellent balance but will still develop with some time.

Mooiplaas Langtafel Red 2008

A gorgeous and accessible blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz, with a touch of Pinotage. Superb value for money.
